Spa treatments can often be more costly than a week, a month or even a years salary for most of us, but it is a treatment we love and we deserve. There aren't many things more relaxing than a day at the spa, but one thing that is sure to make it doubly fun is to enjoy the treatment with your love or lover (unless that's the stress you are trying to run from!).
The trouble is, that doubles the expense, so, why not create the spa right in your home, on a night or weekend when there is no one else in the house and give one another the treatments?

Whether you are rubbing massage oil or body mud on one another, it's hard to decide which is more sensual and sexy; being the massager or the massagee. Below are some tips to help you create the best spa atmosphere and treatment, to make your date night at home a spa night you won't soon forget.
Make sure that you have the place to yourself, the kids are with someone who knows that this is a special night for the two of you, your cell phones are turned off, the T.V and laptop are off limits and you have tried to tie up any "worry" details earlier in the day. No talk of anything important for a few, blissful hours. It's just you, your honey and maybe some honey - whatever feels good! Make it soft and warm, just like a spa. Have your thickest towels and robes in the dryer, ready to be warmed, when needed. Use candles, night lights or mood lighting to set the stage for the room you will be using. Lighting is everything, don't make it so dark that you can't see into one another's eyes, but keep it at a soft glow like it would be if you were sitting in front of a roaring fire. Fragrance does more than smell good. Fragrance takes us back to some of our earliest memories, fills our minds with happiness, love or passion. Carefully choose a scent to float in but not fill your room, whether incense, a sachet, potpourri, fragrance burner or by other means. Make sure it's not only something that you like, but you will want it to please your partner as well. If you are wearing fragrance, make sure the two don't fight against one another, you don't want your senses overwhelmed, hopefully your senses will be busy in other areas. Have fun with fruits; use grapes or strawberries or other fruits to dip in whipped topping or honey, feeding it to one another is a sensual experience. Have champagne to celebrate your love for one another. Toast to your dedication and the evening. Pour a bit of the bubbly on your partner - you know what to do. Don't forget to set the stage for the main event, the massage. If you have a nice fluffy rug, bring it into the room, otherwise, use an old quilt folded a couple of times to make a soft pallet. Make sure your candles, incense or anything else burning is far away from anything flammable. Now, let's not forget music; whether you go for the raspy romantic tunes of Rod Stewart, the sexy stylings of Teddy Pendergrass, Nat King Cole "for sentimental reasons", or your favorite 2010 hit list, get your sounds lined up. Music stirs in us a base instinct from as far back as the beginning of sound, bringing memories of comfort from the womb, the bubbly happiness of childhood and the carefree wild times of our teen years. It might behoove you, however, to stay away from songs from loves gone past on either side, those are memories that might be best laid to rest on this night. Have your massage bottles handy. You don't have to go out and spend a fortune. You can start with a rub down like a body scrub; brown sugar or coarse salt both make great scrubs. Rinse off together in the shower before moving on to the massage. Alternately, take a nice hot bath together. Make the water and your skin lively, fun, sexy and flavorful by adding a couple of boxes of your favorite flavored gelatin to your warm bath water and swish around before getting in. It won't discolor your skin, but your skin will have a faint scent and taste of the flavor of the gelatin. You can even use the sugar free variety. Now to the real meat of the matter. If you don't have any actual massage oil, any lotion works great, olive oil or coconut oil also make great massage oils, as does baby oil. Just be careful not to get it in eyes or on other sensitive areas. These are the slip and slide oils. If you prefer to be able to get a better grip on those muscles you are massaging, choose a grapefruit based oil. Choose your weapon; if you have back scratchers, hand held massagers, loofahs, etc., you may want to have them gently rubbed on you during your massage. But remember, just because you want it does not mean that your partner does, allow your partner to make his/her own choices before assuming what to use. People are very selective in how they like their massages. Some like foot massages and nothing else, other hands and facial massages. Talk to one another beforehand, write a list of what you each prefer so you don't interrupt the mood with indecision. Be considerate and do what your partner likes. If a full body massage is on the agenda for you both, find out whether each of you prefer your massages to go from the tension filled neck and shoulders down to the sensation filled feet and toes or vice versa. This is all about pleasure, giving and receiving. It is not only a night of pleasure but a learning experience on how your entire relationship would be well handled. Perhaps you can both learn something from this night.
